Philosophy
and Profile
Lisa Aman, Lic
Midwife
My beliefs
revolve around the theme that the female body is uniquely and perfectly
designed to give birth to babies and that in most cases this will
happen naturally - that every woman should learn how her body works and
help it by eating, being positive, and taking care of herself and her
unborn child during pregnancy. The act of giving birth is one of the
highest joys in a woman's life and reaches its ultimate when shared
with those who love her in the surroundings of her own home. There will
be occasional medical problems that are not within the range of
"normal" and it is my responsibility to identify these and inform you
of choices and ask that you seek proper medical attention. My personal
study and concern is aimed toward screening out these problems that
might put you or your baby at risk.
My commitment to home birth is based on the concept that the family is
the center of God's will for mankind and that we must do all we can to
strengthen its influence in our society. Pregnancy is NOT a disease and
therefore can usually be treated and fulfilled in the natural, peaceful
setting of your home. Your baby deserves the best - home birth has been
the safest place for babies and mothers for centuries and is practiced
extensively in many other countries that have better statistics than
the United States. Along with the choice of home birth is the necessity
to act responsibly and to do all within your power as parents to plan
for the arrival of your child - whose potential is awesome. The role of
the midwife is to be with you, to share information, to encourage you,
to be supportive and to help you grow with this new experience. Being a
midwife is not synonymous to being a doctor - I am aware of the
difference and am aware of the many things that I can do to help ensure
you a safe and beautiful birth and also aware of the limitations
inherent in my practice. I do comply with present laws concerning
midwifery in this state and I am licensed in South Carolina.
